Wallpaper is all the rage these days and I am LOVING it. In fact I may or may not have a line of wallpaper coming out soon…..stay tuned! While minimalism and neutrals will never go out of style, sometimes that gets boring and there’s no harm in experimenting a little bit. Playing with bold wallpaper is a great way to do this and add an little extra depth and excitement to you space. However, sometimes it can be hard to know where to start. So, I’ve put together a list of examples that show how a little paper can make a big impact!
1. Bright and Colorful
This wallpaper adds a lot of life to this nursery because it is almost like a piece of art that was blown up to cover the wall. I love how it makes the nursery feel whimsical and fairy-like, a change from most baby prints you see on the market. It is also versatile enough to transcend baby years and continue to be relevant during pre-teen years which saves you money on redecorating when they get a little older! Get the look here.
2. Art Deco Chic
A simple, minimal pattern can still go a long way. Something like this works at a large scale like a living room wall, or small scale like a powder room. The clean art deco lines look refined, modern and add an air of sophistication to your space. This works well with solid furniture pieces to ground down the space and elegant accessories (like these planters) to mimic the thin lines of the wallpaper and create balance. Get the look here.
3. Moody and Dark
For those of you who are daring enough to go really bold, a moody print like this is perfect. This would make a dramatic statement in a living room, dining room or even bedroom, but remember – if you chose something this bold make the room about the wallpaper. Keep furniture and accessories light and neutral with colored accent pillows that pick up some tones from the wallpaper. Don’t go overboard with accessorizing and always strive for balance! 4. Bold Accent
You guys know that I’m alllllll about stripes. Classic black and white is bold and stylish, but you can also achieve a subtler look by alternating two tones of the same color. Think of stripes as a neutral and add color with your furniture and accessories. This print is great in a home office, bedroom or even kitchen! Get the look here.
5. Tropical Vibes
Of course I had to add the palm print in here as an ode to my love for the Golden Girls. If you guys saw my Facebook Live house tour you probably saw the palm print head board I have in my guest room. Well this wallpaper is even better! The large scale makes it work great as a big accent wall or in a small room on every wall. Brass accents and light furniture go great with this print. Get the look here.
6. Geometric Modern
Usually I opt for the 60-30-20 rule when it comes to color, but I also stand by the belief that there are no rules when designing your home and what matters the most is that you love it. So if you love color and want to make a statement then go for it! This print is great because it’s super colorful but very geometric which gives it a little more structure. It would be great in a living room, hallway or even a kids/baby’s room! Pair with neutral furniture and accessories that pick up the colors in the wallpaper. Get the look here.
7. Metallic Marble
If you really want to go glam then try a metallic wallpaper. A lot of the ones I’ve seen are geometric, art deco prints but this one has a lot of movement and irregularity which adds a super unique element to your room. Even though the colors are simple, the pattern is quite complex so you want to keep your furniture mostly neutral and just add a few eclectic pieces like a sculptural end table or accent chair. Get the look here.
8. Calming Watercolor
Watercolor prints are quite popular these days and I definitely don’t mind the trend. While a lot of wallpaper prints add more excitement and energy to a room this one gives off a calming vibe that I could definitely use more of around my own house! This print would go well with either dark or light furniture and because it’s neutral you can decorate with another accent color like a fucsia carpet! Get the look here.
9. Irregular Dots
Regular polka dots can tend to be cheesy, but this uneven pattern is definitely more timeless and sophisticated. This print is so versatile that you can use it in unexpected places like inside a closet, drawers, cabinets or more! I have a similar print in Olivia’s nursery and it looks great. The irregular arrangement of the dots adds an organic element that works well with clean cut, structured furniture. Get the look here.
10. Classic Herringbone
If you want to keep it classic you can never go wrong with herringbone. Just like stripes, think of this as a neutral that you can dress up or down and use in any space in your house from the bedroom to the laundry room. The simple pattern goes great with modern furniture and bright pops of color! Get the look here.
