Obviously, because I’m Cuban….my favorite sandwich is a Cuban sandwich! Growing up it was always a staple in our home and my Mom used to make them for us all the time. Now, when I entertain they’re always a hit! So here’s an easy but authentic way to make one!
What you need:
– One loaf Cuban bread (it’s very important to get real Cuban bread but if you can’t find it you can always use a soft baguette or Steve likes to use Hawaiian rolls!)
– 2 slices of Swiss Cheese
– Butter
– 5 slices Dill Pickles
– 4 very thin slices of Ham (black forest)
– 3 thin slices of roasted pork
– 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
What to do:
Step 1.
Cut about an 8″ section of bread and slice in half. Spread mustard evenly across the top half then add the thin slices of ham to the bottom half. Place the slices of pork on top of the ham, then add the swiss cheese and pickles.
Step 2.
Put the sandwich together and spread butter on both sides to grill. You could use a panini press or a brick wrapped in aluminum foil. My mom always used a brick even though we had a press. 🙂 If you’re wondering what the heck I mean by “use a brick” all you have to do is place the sandwich in a cast iron skillet and put the brick covered in foil on top to press the sandwich down! Cook until both sides are golden brown (about 5 minutes). When ready, remove from pan or press and slice in half. Enjoy with a beer or spicy mojito!
