Last week, I was reunited with Chris White (my favorite sidekick) from The High Low Project for a quick holiday makeover in New Jersey. He is SUCH a genius when it comes to creating the most gorgeous floral arrangements! So, when I got home, I was totally inspired to create something that I could use for our Thanksgiving dinner (if it turned out ok). I wanted a fresh take on fall colors to liven up our table. These bright blooms are from the LA Flower Mart but flowers from your local grocery store or florist could work, too! Contrasting textures and colors are the secret to this rich look.
Here are a few tips to arranging the perfect holiday florals…
Trim all stems and prune excess leaves. This not only makes it easier to play around with your arrangement but it will help the bouquet last longer. Any leaves that sit below the water line will rot and shorten the life of your flowers.
Now, place in the largest buds. In this case, it was the cabbage flowers. These ground the arrangement and create balance. Depending on the flowers or vase you are using, you can use floral foam to keep everything in place, but you don’t always need it. Just make sure to pre-soak the foam for about 15-20 min.
Now, it’s all about building outward. Just keep layering! My best advice is to be patient and try not to worry about perfection. The elements will eventually come together and leave you with an organically beautiful result! Trust me, I DO NOT have a green thumb, so if I can make this…. so can you. PS. Do you love billy buttons as much as I do?
What do you think?
Don’t forget to tag me if you post your own! I always love to see how your arrangements come together if you make them at home!
