One of the great things about having a birthday right in the middle of the holidays/at the end of the year, is I get to do all of my reflection and resetting at once. And, since today is my 43rd birthday, I wanted to share with you 42 Things Life Taught Me at 42. So, here it goes:
- Everything is temporary.
- Nothing beats a consistent morning routine.
- Everyone likes paella (even if its vegan) and it makes a great dish when hosting your 192 million family members.
- Life is too short not to be happy.
- Thoughts become things.
- The most important person to impress is yourself.
- Meditation fixes a lot of things. So does therapy. Both are great.
- Tapas definitely count as a meal.
- It’s okay to ask for help.
- Not giving up on yourself is the key to success.
- Find people who celebrate your wins. And make sure to also celebrate theirs.
- Friendships end, it’s not the end of the world.
- My mom was right about most things.
- 3 going on 30 is a reallllll thing.
- Alone time > everything else.
- Rest when you are tired.
- Ask for what you want and believe you deserve it.
- Pray, journal, meditate. Find a way to connect with yourself.
- Gratitude is the most productive emotion.
- Tell the people in your life you love them.
- It’s okay to say no.
- Just because you still love them doesn’t mean you have to give them your time.
- Who you are is exactly enough.
- You shouldn’t “hate” any areas of your life. If you don’t like something, change it.
- Your heart may get broken. You will be okay.
- If you take a day off, the world won’t end.
- Good friends will carry you when you most need it.
- You can and you will (if you want to).
- Progress not perfection.
- Let go of what you can’t control.
- You matter. A lot.
- Removing “can’t” from your vocabulary will change your life.
- Happiness looks good on everyone.
- Apologize when you are wrong.
- Tomorrow is a new day.
- People show you who they really are.
- You teach people how to treat you.
- Experiences > Things
- Start your day with three things you are grateful for everyday and your mindset will shift.
- Wearing lipstick cheers me up.
- Eat your veggies, trust me, you’ll feel better.
- Let go of the idea you had for your life and enjoy the present moment.
