I was recently chatting with a friend about the idea of “seasonal decorating” – changing the decor in your home to match the season. And while I like this idea in theory, it just isn’t practical in the real world (other than a seasonal hand towel and soap here and there). But with that being said, I do like to do some small “refreshes” throughout the year. A throw pillow for spring, outdoor rug for summer, candles for fall and of course, holiday decorations for winter. These small changes can help you shift into all that the new season has to offer. And with spring – it is all about new beginnings! I’ve rounded up some of my favorite ways to give your home a mini spring refresh to help your space feel elevated and updated without breaking the bank.
Add Fresh Flowers – Nothing brightens up a space faster then some fresh flowers. This time of year recommend bringing some color into your space with some fresh flowers (I currently have hydrangeas on my counter and tulips on my coffee table). I like to stick with flowers that are in season at this time of year and switch them out as needed. *Pro Tip: Keep it monochromatic (see pictures below) and style with different and unique vases. Use different sized vases to create dynamic levels with your florals.
Swap Out Your Photos – I like to change out the framed photos in my house when I feel like I need a subtle change. From black and white prints of Olivia to the framed photo in my room of my mom and my sister, when I want a small refresh. I update the prints so I can think of new memories when I look at the photos. *Pro Tip: I like to use black and white photos to keep a cohesive feel and so I can style the area around it with more color without making the space feel too busy.
Add Some Plants – Bringing some greenery into your home is an easy way to bring some life into your space. Some of my favorite indoor, lowlight plants are Snake Plants, Pothos, and Monstera (which is also a great air purifier). These plants thrive with little care and are a super easy way to refresh your space. *Pro Tip: style with different heights. Use some legged potters and some hanging, to create a dynamic feel.
Get a New Throw Pillow – Make new friends, but keep the old, right? That is my feeling on throw pillows. While it’s good to update them every few years or so, in between I like to add a few new ones here and there to gives spaces an easy refresh. Style with mix-matched prints and textures to give the space personality and show off your style. *Pro Tip: Use your throw pillows as accents. Have a color you want to tie into a certain room? A throw pillow is a super easy way to do it!
My Living Room Spring Refresh – Bright, fresh flowers on the coffee table and on the fireplace, styled in unique vases, indoor tree (by the window for light), updated prints in the frames on my bookshelf and mixed-matched throw pillows. I tossed a light colored, contrasting throw blanked over one of my black chairs to bring some more color in and brighten up the space as well.
